Tulsi marriage story
According to the legend, once Shiva had thrown his glory into the sea. A bright child was born from her womb. This child later became a powerful demon king named Jalandhar. The name of his kingdom was Jalandhar Nagar. Vrinda, daughter of demon king Kalnemi, was married to Jalandhar. Jalandha was a great demon. He fought for his bravery with the desire to attain Goddess Lakshmi. But he was born in the ocean so Goddess Lakshmi accepted him as her brother. Now after losing, he went to Mount Kailash with the desire to find Goddess Parvati.

Here he took the form of Lord Shankar and approached Goddess Parvati. But Mother Parvati immediately recognized him with her yoga power and Mother Parvati immediately disappeared. Then Jalandhar started a war with Lord Shiva. Goddess Parvati became angry and spoke to Lord Vishnu. Jalandhar's wife Vrinda was a very religious and devoted woman. Jalandhar could not be destroyed or defeated by the strength of its Pativrata religion. Therefore, to destroy Vrinda's husband's religion, it was necessary to break her husband's religion.

Lord Vishnu took the incarnation of a sage and reached the forest. Vrinda was passing through that forest alone. Vishnu was accompanied by two demons, seeing whom she got scared. The sage immediately killed both of them in front of Vrinda. Seeing his power, Vrinda asked about her husband who was fighting with Mahadev on Mount Kailash. The sage manifested two monkeys through his magic. One of the monkeys had Jalandhar's head in his hand and the other had his torso in his hand. Seeing this condition of her husband, Vrinda fainted. On regaining consciousness, she prayed to Rishi Dev to revive her husband.

By His grace, God not only attached Jalandhar's head to His body, but He Himself also entered his body. Vrinda had no idea of this magic. Vrinda started treating God like a wife, which destroyed her chastity. As soon as this happened, Vrinda's husband was defeated in the Jalandhar war. When Vrinda came to know about all this leela, she got angry and cursed Lord Vishnu to become a merciless rock. Vishnu accepted this curse of his devotee and got absorbed in the Shaligram rock.

The building blocks of the universe created a state of imbalance in the universe. All the gods prayed to Lord Vishnu to liberate them from the curse of Vrinda. Vrinda freed Vishnu from the curse and immolated herself. Tulsi plant grew where Vrinda was cremated.

Lord Vishnu said to Vrinda that O Vrinda, because of your chastity you have become more dear to me than Lakshmi. Now you will always be with me in the form of Tulsi. Since then, Tulsi Vivah is celebrated every year in the month of Kartik on the day of Devuthi Ekadashi. Whoever marries Tulsi with my Shaligram form gets abundant success and immense achievements in the next world.

Apart from this, there has been such rain on Tulsi that even the messengers of Yama will not be able to reach the house where Tulsi will live before time. At the time of death, the one whose soul comes out of his mouth with Manjari, Tulsi and Ganga water, becomes free from sins and attains Vaikuntha Dham. The person who worships his ancestors under the shade of Tulsi and Amaranth attains ancestral salvation.
