Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal gets medical bail

Mumbai: Bombay High Court has granted bail on medical grounds to Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal, who is serving a jail sentence in a money laundering case. In May. Jamdar granted interim bail to Goyal on medical grounds. On Monday he made the interim order permanent. 75-year-old Goyal is suffering from cancer and has sought bail to undergo treatment.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) opposed the plea, saying he could be admitted to a hospital of his choice and treated while in custody.

In May, the high court had granted interim bail for two months and then extended it for four weeks, followed by another two months.

Canara Bank gave Rs 50 crore to Jet Airways. Goyal was arrested in September 2023 on charges of embezzlement and money laundering of loan worth Rs 538.62 crore. His wife Anita Goyal was also arrested in November 2023. A special court granted bail to Anita the same day on the basis of her age and medical reasons. He died on 16 May.
