Justin Trudeau: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has acknowledged the presence of Khalistani supporters in Canada. Trudeau said, these people do not represent the entire Sikh community in Canada. His statement justified India's stand in which India had alleged that the Canadian government was harboring pro-Khalistan elements.

Justin Trudeau also talked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's supporters in Canada. He said that there are Khalistan supporters in Canada, but they do not represent the Sikh community. Similarly, there are supporters of the Modi government in Canada, but they do not represent all Hindu Canadians. He made this statement while addressing the Indian community during Diwali celebrations at Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

Trudeau's statement has further complicated the situation amid rising diplomatic tensions between India and Canada. Tension began when Justin Trudeau alleged the involvement of Indian agents in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. This incident happened in June 2023. Nijjar was killed in a shooting outside a gurudwara in British Columbia.

Relations between Canada and India deteriorated in September 2023. Canada has declared the Indian High Commissioner a person of interest in the investigation into Nijjar's murder. In response, India strongly denied the allegations and further cooled its relations with Canada. Recalled the Indian High Commissioner to Ottawa and expelled six Canadian diplomats.

India's Ministry of External Affairs has repeatedly said that the Canadian government has not shared any concrete evidence of Indian involvement in the Nijjar killings. India had repeatedly asked for information on this. The ministry also accused Prime Minister Trudeau of indulging in vote bank politics and said the Canadian government has not taken adequate steps to deal with Khalistan elements on its soil. This tension is increasing between India and Canada. Khalistan movement can further complicate the relations between the two countries.
