In the Rabi season starting after Diwali, farmers across the state have started sowing Rabi crops or are preparing to do so. But since the temperature remains high during the day in Gujarat, farmers need to take special precautions during transplantation. The advisory said that farmers should purchase high quality seeds of gram, mustard, garlic, cumin, wheat, coriander, onion and fenugreek crops in advance for sowing winter crops.
It is important to avoid sowing of Rabi crops during periods of high day temperatures or hot temperatures as hot temperatures are not suitable for germination of Rabi seeds. In order not to affect the growth of Rabi crops at the planting stage, the crop should be given frequent light watering (from fountain if possible) in the evening against the effect of high temperatures. The advisory further states that farmers can avoid losses by following these precautionary measures.
