Today is the second day of the four-day great festival Chhath Puja i.e. the day of Kharna. Every year the festival of Kharna is celebrated on the Panchami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, which is an important part of Chhath Puja. This year the festival of Kharna will be celebrated on 6 November 2024. On this day, devotees worship with special resolve and offer offerings to the Sun God.

Kharna is worshiped in the evening, which is the most auspicious moment of the day. Today, all-round success and good deeds are being formed.

Kharna puja method

On the day of Kharna, devotees observe Nirjala fast from the morning and Kharna Prasad is made in the evening. Earthen ovens are used to make prasad, which is part of the Chhath Puja tradition. Mango wood is used to light the stove, which purifies the environment. Kheer made of jaggery and rice is made as Prasad and roti made of wheat flour is also made along with it. This Prasad is offered to Chhathi Maiya and Lord Surya.

items used in prasad

Khar prasad usually consists of jaggery and rice pudding, cooked in an earthen oven over mango wood. This is the traditional method which maintains the sanctity of Chhath Puja. Along with halwa, roti made of wheat flour is also made, which the fasting people eat after offering it to the Lord. After accepting it as Prasad, devotees take a pledge to observe a fast without water for 36 hours.
