Nainital, 05 November (HS). The bus accident in Almora district of Uttarakhand refreshed the memories of the major bus accident that took place in Dhumkot, Pauri in 2018, in which 48 people died. A total of 36 people have died in the Almora bus accident. While 27 people are injured and are undergoing treatment. Two of the injured are still in ICU. In such a situation, there is a possibility of the death toll increasing further.
Since Uttarakhand became a disaster affected state, shocking figures have come to light. According to the information sought under the Right to Information by Haldwani's RTI activist Hemant Gaunia, since the formation of Uttarakhand state, about 20 thousand people have lost their lives in the state in the last 24 years. Whereas in the last six years, 5504 people have died in road accidents. Of these, 4670 are men and 834 are women. According to another report, in the year 2024, 59 people have died and 226 people have been injured in road accidents in Uttarakhand from June to September 17.
In the hilly state of Uttarakhand, most road accidents have occurred between 6 pm and 9 pm in the last few years.

Whereas in the year 2020, 674 people lost their lives in 1041 road accidents. In the year 2021, there were 820 deaths in about 1400 road accidents in the state. Whereas in 2022, there were about 1500 road accidents and 1022 people died.
Uttarakhand's biggest road accident in 2018
The bus accident that took place in Dhumakot in Pauri district is the biggest accident in Uttarakhand in terms of death of passengers in road accidents. The death of 48 people from the same village in this accident shocked everyone. Six years later, the bus accident in Marchula located in Kupi of Almora district has given another wound.
