Chhindwara, 4 November (HS). On Sunday night, a youth broke the idol of Lord Ganesha located in the Ganesh temple in Junnardev Nagar of Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh. This incident took place in the temple located in ward number 7-8 of the city. Tension spread in the area regarding the incident. As soon as information about the incident was received, the local people immediately gathered and caught the young man. People demanded action against a young man named Taufiq.
After the incident, on Monday, members of Hindu organizations reached Junnardev police station and demonstrated strongly there. Considering the seriousness of the matter, the police deployed additional police force on the spot. Additional Superintendent of Police Awadhesh Pratap Singh and in-charge DSP Rajesh Kumar Banjara reached the spot and assured strict action against the accused.
There is an atmosphere of tension in the entire area after the incident. Traders have announced city bandh. All establishments remained closed throughout the day on Monday. Hindu organizations have demanded from the administration that strict action should be taken against the accused. The police have taken the accused youth into custody and have registered a case against him. The local administration is alert to control the situation. In view of the tense situation, police have increased security in the city.
Jama Masjid Committee has also issued a letter regarding the incident demanding action against the accused youth. Jama Masjid Committee said that the Muslim society condemns this act of the youth Taufiq who broke the statue in the temple. The youth is accused of disturbing communal harmony, on which the committee demands action from the administration.
