Kolkata, 04 November (HS). A total of five people have been arrested in two separate incidents in Laketown. In the first incident, police were attacked when they tried to stop the bursting of illegal firecrackers. In the second incident, a woman was molested and her husband was beaten.
In a statement issued by Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate on Monday, it has been said that on Sunday night, some youths were bursting banned firecrackers at the immersion ghat near VIP Road in Laketown. Police reached the spot and tried to stop them, but the youth attacked the police and fled from there. However, later the police caught the three accused and registered a case against them under various sections including obstructing government work. These accused will be presented in the court on Monday.
In the second incident, some local youths had a dispute with a woman and her husband at the same immersion ghat. A dispute regarding lighting during Kali Puja escalated, and drunken youths used abusive language with the woman. When the woman's husband protested, the accused beat him up too. The woman told the police that during the dispute the youth also beat her and abused her.
According to the police, some policemen were patrolling nearby at the time of the incident. They caught two accused, while the rest escaped. The woman and her husband were taken to R.G. for medical examination. He was sent to the Medical College, where his condition is currently stable. A case has been registered against the arrested accused under various sections including assault and sexual harassment and they will be produced in the court on Monday.
Apart from this, an incident of assault on a youth over a firecracker dispute also came to light in Entali area on Sunday. When he protested against bursting firecrackers in front of his house, a young man was attacked with a brick, due to which he suffered a head injury. In this case also two people have been arrested by the police.
