Shimla, 02 November (HS). Former Chief Minister and former Union Minister Shanta Kumar has strongly attacked the working style of the three governments on the long pending status of Paragliding Training Center in Beed-Billing. He said, “Bir-Billing is gaining international fame for paragliding. “Paragliders from all over the world are coming here during an important event like the World Cup, but the tragic accidents of two foreign paragliders in two days have exposed the lack of basic training facilities in the region.”
Shanta Kumar said in a statement on Saturday that eight years ago today, the then Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh had laid the foundation stone of a paragliding training center and had announced that the center would be ready in two years. However, even after eight years have passed, the use of this building built at a cost of Rs 8 crore has not started yet. The reason being given is that the necessary rules for training have not been made yet.
He said, “When the construction of the building started, why did the process of making rules not start at the same time? Today, due to lack of government training, many illegal training schools have opened there, where training is being given without any recognition and due to this, accidents are happening continuously.”
Expressing concern, Shanta Kumar said that Himachal Pradesh has immense tourism potential and Bir-Billing has made its mark globally in the field of paragliding. But for the last eight years, three governments have been sleeping after completing the construction of this building. Questioning the present government, he said, “When will this incompetence of the three governments end?”
