Punjab Hit and Run: Sandeep, a 53-year-old hand tool industrialist, and his 17-year-old son Sanan Sharma, who were sitting in a Brezza car on the roadside, were hit by a Mahindra XUV coming from the front. Father and son died on the spot after a speeding collision on Mall Road in Model Town of Jalandhar in Punjab on Thursday night. Sandeep's wife and daughter who were sitting in the car were also seriously injured in the accident.
Sandeep and his family were returning from a friend's birthday party at Permit House restaurant. According to the local people present there, the youth riding in XUV and Thar were racing against each other. An uncontrolled XUV coming from GTB Chowk, which was traveling at a speed exceeding 100 km per hour, hit the father and son. Both of them jumped and fell away. Both of them died on the spot due to serious injuries.
Police are examining CCTV footage
Police Station 6 in-charge Sal Choudhary said that CCTV footage is being checked. On the statement of Sandeep's daughter Ishita, a case has been registered against the driver of the XUV car and investigation has been started. The XUV is registered in the name of Model House resident Sandeep Verma. When the police checked the owner's house, the accused had fled from there. The police have kept the bodies of father and son in the civil hospital. Sandeep's elder daughter will return from abroad on Saturday morning and postmortem will be done later.
The accident happened even before sitting in the car
Ishita, daughter of the deceased, told that her father had a factory for making hand tools in the industry area. The father had come to the restaurant with younger brother Sanan and mother for a friend's birthday party. After the party was over, mother and I came out of the restaurant and sat in the car. Brother and father were about to open the car door and go inside when the XUV hit them hard from behind. Due to the collision, his car overturned and collided with a Hyundai Venue parked in the parking lot. In which brother and father died due to being buried.
The accused ran away due to the accident
People present around the incident site said that youths riding in AQV and Thar were racing with each other. While trying to overtake each other, the XUV driver hit the Brezza. The collision was so dangerous that the air bag of the XUV also opened and the head of the young man driving the car hit the glass.
