India angry with Nepal's new currency note, suspicion of China's malice behind this incident

Nepal currency notes: India, which has always maintained good relations with its neighboring countries, has not been maintaining good relations with its neighbors for the last few years. The situation with Pakistan was like revenge for the father, from time to time relations with China, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Bangladesh also kept deteriorating due to some reason or the other. The newest name in this list is related to Nepal. All relations have deteriorated mostly due to the enmity of neighboring countries. Same thing has happened with Nepal also. A small country has done something which has angered India.

Recently, Nepal government has issued a new note of Rs 100, in which some areas of Uttarakhand have been shown as part of Nepal. The area is approximately 370 square kilometers. Nepal has considered three parts of Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani as its country.

Government changed, not policy

The decision to issue new notes in Nepal was taken in May 2024 during the government of Pushpa Kamal Dahal. In Nepal, 'Central Bank of Kathmandu' has the right to change the design of the note, but for this it will have to take the approval of the government. The government changed in July 2024 and K.P. Sharma Oli became the new Prime Minister. However, in the old government, notes were printed according to the prepared design. This means that the new government also does not need to spoil relations with India. The question is – why not?

Nepal has created ruckus before too

Earlier, during the Covid period, Nepal had released a new political map in the year 2020. Then in this he showed Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura and Kalapani in his country. Even then India had strongly opposed it.

The border dispute is centuries old, so is the geography.

The border dispute between Nepal and India is more than a hundred years old. In late 1815, the Treaty of Sugauli was signed between Nepal and the East India Company (the then representative of India). India's border touches Nepal and China in the disputed area. The region contains a valley, which is the source of the Kali River, which flows through Nepal and India. Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura passes are also located near this area called Kalapani.

The origin of the river is at the root of the dispute

Under the treaty, the boundaries of both the countries were determined on the basis of the Kali River. The western part of the river was considered to be India and the eastern part was considered to be Nepal. An agreement was reached regarding the division of the area, but no consensus was reached on whose area the origin of the Kali River should fall. Due to which both the countries kept claiming Kalapani from time to time.

However, the administrative state of India…

The disputed areas of all three are administratively part of India. The people of Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipulekh are Indian citizens and their identity cards also say so. They pay taxes in India only. However, Nepal has come to a standstill. What is the reason for that?

Nepal's move at the behest of China?

Nepal's dependence on China has increased in the last few years. China also has a role in the latest issue of currency notes. This new currency note of Nepal has been printed by the Chinese company 'China Bank Note Printing and Minting Corporation'. The contract that Nepal has given to the Chinese company includes everything from redesigning the notes to printing and supply. A contract has been signed to print a total of 30 crore notes. There is talk that China has deliberately included disputed areas in Nepal's currency to harass India.

What is the benefit to China?

India is giving tough competition to China on the economic front. Doklam and Arunachal Pradesh border dispute is already going on between the two countries. For the last several years, China has been making moves to achieve strategic victory against India, under which China is subjugating India's neighboring countries. China has made countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Maldives its vassals by giving them huge loans for development. Those small children point towards China and say small things against India. On the same lines, discussion has started that China is now using Nepal against India also. China may be planning to achieve its big ambitions in the future by isolating India from its neighboring countries.

A small but important area

The disputed area is only 370 square kilometers, so it is not considered a particularly large area. However, it is important because of the location. Here the borders of India, Nepal and China touch each other, hence from a strategic point of view this is a very important area for India. From here it is easy to keep an eye on the activities of the Chinese army. Indo-Tibetan Border Police is continuously deployed here.

Since it is a question of the country's sovereignty, this time India also protested over the political map issue.
