Whereas the Democratic Party candidate is Kamala Harris. While the entire world is keeping an eye on the American elections, interesting facts are also emerging regarding it. Which you might not know about…

Why vote on Tuesday for the presidential election in the United States?
Before 1845, voting took place on different dates in all the states of America. However, in 1845 a law was enacted to allow all states to vote together. In which it was said that the voters of each state will have to vote for the President and Vice President on the first Tuesday of the month of November. If the first day of November falls on a Tuesday, then in such a situation voting takes place on the Tuesday following the next Monday.

The reason behind this is that earlier most of the population of America used to do farming. The crop was harvested before November. Therefore the farmers had time. The month of November was chosen for this reason.

Apart from this, Christian people go to church on Sunday. Also, markets remained packed in many cities on Wednesday. Meanwhile, one had to travel for a day to reach the polling station. Therefore, Tuesday was chosen because voting could not take place on Monday and Thursday.

Why take oath only in January?
In fact, elected voters meet in their respective states on the Tuesday following the first Wednesday in December and elect the President and Vice President. On the fourth Wednesday of December, the President of the Senate counts the electors' votes after they have been received.

Additionally, the President-elect and his team need time to prepare, expand the cabinet, and discuss policies. Therefore, the new government is formed only on 20 January.

What will happen if no party gets majority?
In our country, if no party gets a clear majority, then the largest party forms a government by forming an alliance with smaller parties and independents. Looking at US elections, if a party falls short of the magic number of 270 electoral votes, the House of Representatives elects the President. For this, 50 states of America vote and the candidate who gets 26 votes is declared the winner. This has happened before in American history in 1800 and 1824.
