Mumbai: Lakhs of Central Railway passengers faced problems on the last day of Diwali in Mumbai. On Thursday S.R.E. Unbearable crowd was seen due to local trains running as per Sunday time table.
Since morning, announcements were being made on the platform that trains were being run as per Sunday schedule. Surprisingly, there was a stampede at Ghatkopar, Thane, Dadar and CSMT stations because there were very few trains there and even those were not running on time.
More railway police and Maharashtra Security Force personnel were deployed at Dadar station than usual. To control the crowd, ropes were tied between the stages.
People out to meet relatives and friends on Diwali expressed concern that Central Railway trains run irregularly even on normal days. But Thagari has expressed hope that there will be some relief during Diwali.
The condition of the first class compartment of trains was worse than the third class. Passengers without first class tickets would quietly come inside with their luggage. Despite so much chaos, there is no TC present either on the platform or in the trains. Nor was TTE seen.
