It is snowing in Hawaii this week. Snow has fallen on Hawaii's highest mountain. Due to which cold weather has started on the mountain top. Up to 2 inches of snow has fallen on the peak of Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii and the mountain is covered in a sheet of snow.

Hawaii is famous for its warm weather, beaches and monsoons. But monsoon snowfall is not uncommon in the higher reaches of Mauna Kea. The peak is 13,803 feet above sea level where temperatures can remain low throughout the year.

It can rain here anytime. Ballard, a Hawaii meteorologist, said the cold temperatures and humidity could cause temperatures to drop below zero and avalanches. There was a blanket of snow here on Monday but after two days the snow melted, Mauna Keo Hill is now deserted.

No one lives on Mauna Kea. However, the hill is sacred to Native Hawaiians. It is believed that Mauna Keo is the first child of his father Sky and mother Earth. The low and dim light and dry climate at the top of the mountain make it the best place to observe the night sky. Some mesmerizing and beautiful pictures of snowfall have been captured by a dozen telescopes set up by astronomers.
