Jammu, 30 October (HIST). Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology and Environment and Tribal Affairs Javed Ahmed Rana asked wildlife officials to assess the impact of human activities and livestock grazing by non-traditional migratory herders on the markhor and its habitat.
While traveling via Mughal Road the Minister visited Hirpora Wildlife Sanctuary in Shopian and exhorted the wildlife conservation officials to take aggressive measures like soil conservation, afforestation and other appropriate measures against wildlife crime to conserve and protect the delicate ecosystem inhabiting Markhor. Instructed to take all possible measures. He directed for 24-hour patrolling besides regular monitoring of wildlife population to combat poaching and poaching.
The Minister underlined the important role of wildlife officers in engaging migratory communities to bring about desirable outcomes for markhor revival and the fragile ecosystem they inhabit through community-based conservation efforts. He said there should be no harassment of traditional migratory herders and directed wildlife conservation officers to raise awareness through public outreach programs by involving local migratory communities and encouraging them to become more aware and responsible stewards of wildlife conservation.
