Diwali not celebrated in Sammu village of Himachal: Diwali is in full swing across the country at this time. People from Jerashor are preparing for Diwali festival. Every corner of the country will sparkle on Thursday. But very few people know that there is a village in India where no one celebrates Diwali.
There is a village in Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh where neither the festival of Diwali is celebrated nor any preparations are made for Diwali. In Sammu village of Hamirpur district, Diwali has been celebrated for many years and even dishes are not prepared at home on this day. People believe that this village is cursed, hence Diwali is not celebrated here. Celebrating Diwali here will lead to disaster or untimely death.
People do not even come out of the house on Diwali.
This time also there is no enthusiasm about Diwali in Sammu village, about 25 kilometers away from Hamirpur district headquarters. Celebrating Diwali has been avoided here for hundreds of years. Diyas are lit on Diwali, but if a family accidentally bursts crackers and cooks food at home, disaster is sure to strike the village.
It is not that people have not tried to get rid of this curse. Many attempts were made but all efforts proved unsuccessful. To free the village from this curse, Havan Yagya was resorted to several times but all these efforts failed. People are so afraid of the curse that the villagers do not consider it appropriate to even step out of the house on the day of Diwali.
If someone celebrates Diwali, trouble occurs…
One person told that Diwali has not been celebrated in the village for hundreds of years. If someone tries to celebrate Diwali, someone dies or disaster strikes in the village.
What is the story of the curse?
It is noteworthy that on the day of Diwali, a woman of this village committed sati along with her husband. The woman was going to her ghat to celebrate Diwali. Her husband was a soldier in the king's court. But when the woman reached a short distance from the village, she came to know that her husband had died.
The woman was pregnant at that time. It is said that the woman could not bear the shock and committed adultery with her husband. Along with this, he cursed the entire village that the people of this village will never be able to celebrate the festival of Diwali. From that day till today no one celebrated Diwali in this village. People worship only the idol of Sati.
