CAA: The dates of the next Lok Sabha elections can be announced in a few days. Earlier on Monday, the Central Government has officially implemented the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the country. With the implementation of CAA, non-Muslim refugees from three neighboring countries of India will be able to get Indian citizenship. However, some states have been kept out of the scope of this law and have been exempted from the CAA.
CAA will not be applicable in northeastern states
According to an agency, CAA will not be implemented in most of the tribal areas of the North-Eastern states. It also includes areas granted special status under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. As per further details, the CAA law will not be implemented in all the northeastern states where people living in other parts of the country require 'Inner Line Permit' (ILP) for travel.
Exemption in these states also
ILP is also applicable in Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur. Citing rules, officials said tribal areas where autonomous councils have been formed under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution have also been kept out of the purview of the CAA. Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura have such autonomous councils.
