Paddy Procurement: Paddy procurement has been slow in Punjab. Due to non-lifting of paddy, farmers have started coming to the markets. At present the procurement of paddy in all the mandis of the state is nominal. Punjab and Central Government are blaming each other for this entire situation. In this regard, Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal has held FCI and the Central Government responsible.
Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said that the only problem in Punjab is paddy lifting. Therefore, 70 percent of the paddy crop is lying in the markets. Sheller owners have given up. This is happening because Food Corporation of India (FCI) did not purchase the already stored paddy. Due to this, piles of paddy are forming in the markets. It is the duty of FCI and the Central Government to ensure adequate storage arrangements.
He said that it is the job of FCI to start the lifting of paddy and speed up the lifting because every time it is FCI that buys the crop. Therefore, the Central Government and FCI should have lifted the paddy crop on time this time also. There is no fault of Punjab government in this. The same system is adopted every time for purchasing crops. There is no need to do anything new in this.
