Strict action in Lawrence Bishnoi interview case, 7 policemen including 2 DSP suspended

7 policemen were considered guilty in the report

The Punjab Home Department constituted the SIT under the chairmanship of Special DGP Parbodh Kumar of Punjab Human Rights Commission. He blamed 7 policemen in his report. Punjab Police had registered an FIR under sections 384, 201, 202, 506, 116 and 120-B of the IPC and section 46 of the Prison Act, 1894 in Mohali on January 5 to interview Lawrence Bishnoi.

These are the allegations against Bishnoi

Bishnoi is an alleged accused in the famous Punjab singer Sidhu Moojwala case and is also an accused in the Baba Siddiqui murder case in Mumbai. More than three dozen cases are registered against him in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi. Recently, the Canadian government had accused him of being an agent of India in the murder case of Hardeep Singh Nijjar last year.

Action on the instructions of the High Court

The High Court ordered the state government to take strict action in this matter. The court directed that no criminal should be allowed to give interviews while in jail. The Punjab government took the matter seriously and issued immediate suspension orders.
