Edmonton: Major cuts to immigration have now been announced to tackle housing affordability problems in Canada. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that Canada will take in 3,95,000 permanent residents in 2025. Whereas in 2026 the number of PR will be 3 lakh 80 thousand and in 2027 it will be 3 lakh 65 thousand. With this, the number of temporary residents will reduce from 7.2 percent to five percent.
Accordingly, the number of temporary residents will reduce to 4,45,901 in 2025 and 4,45,662 in 2026. The Government of Canada has taken this decision in view of the criticism of increasing unemployment in Canada, housing and excessive immigration of immigrants. Earlier it was announced to reduce the number of international students by 2.5 percent.
