New Delhi: Amid preparations to teach the new textbooks prepared under the new National Education Policy (NEP) in schools across the country from the new academic session, the Education Ministry has asked the states to quickly fill the vacant posts of teachers. The Ministry has made this appeal to the states at a time when the number of teachers in schools in the country has improved compared to before but still more than eight lakh posts are vacant. Most of these posts are for teachers teaching at the primary level, whose number is around seven lakh.
However, for the last several years, the Education Ministry has been continuously putting pressure on the states to fill the vacant posts of teachers in schools. The effect of this was that the situation in many states has already improved, but there are still states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Bengal, Chhattisgarh where a large number of posts of teachers are vacant. Every school has written a letter to the states. Instructions have been given to keep the student-teacher ratio correct. The ministry says that this will improve the level of education in schools. Besides, the performance of the state will also improve.
