Pakistan: Amidst the increasing Taliban violence in Pakistan, terrorists have once again targeted police personnel. On Friday, 10 policemen were shot dead near the Afghan border. Seven other soldiers have been injured.

Islamic terrorist group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for Thursday's attack. The attack comes as Pakistan grapples with terrorist attacks in its northwest as well as a resurgence of ethnic separatist insurgency in the south.

Terrorists attacked security forces

Confirming the attack on condition of anonymity, three senior police sources said a large group of terrorists attacked the post and killed members of the Frontier Constabulary Security Force.

Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, chief minister of the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, confirmed the attack in a statement on Friday, in which he condemned it but did not give a death toll.

The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group claimed responsibility and said in a statement that the attack was revenge for the killing of a senior leader, Ustad Qureshi.

The Pakistani army said in a statement on Thursday that Qureshi was among nine killed in an intelligence-led operation in Bajaur district, bordering Afghanistan. Two suicide bombers were also involved in this.

Further attacks after capture

Islamabad says the TTP uses Afghanistan as a base and says the ruling Taliban administration has provided the group with a safe haven near the border. Taliban denies this.

The number of such attacks in Pakistan has been increasing since the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan in 2021. Pakistani terrorists of Taliban have targeted the security forces the most. Even before this, terrorists have been continuously targeting the police in this area. Earlier in August, terrorists had attacked a police team with rockets in Pakistan's Punjab province. At least 11 policemen were killed in this attack. The terrorists had also taken many policemen hostage. According to reports, the attack on the police vehicle took place when the police van got stuck on a muddy road.
