New Delhi, 24 October (Hindustan Reporter). Congress will not field any candidate in the by-elections to be held on 9 seats of Uttar Pradesh Assembly. Congress will support Indi alliance in this by-election. Along with this, efforts will be made to ensure victory for the alliance candidates.
Congress' Uttar Pradesh in-charge Avinash Pandey said in a press conference at the party headquarters on Thursday that by-elections are going to be held on 9 out of 10 seats in the state. The top leadership of Congress has decided that the party will not field its candidates in the by-elections. He said that today is not the time to save our organization, this is the time to protect the Constitution and brotherhood, hence the top leadership has decided not to field any of its candidates. Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai was also present on this occasion.
In fact, in the by-elections of Uttar Pradesh, Congress had demanded from SP those two seats where BJP had lost in the 2022 elections, but in exchange of these two seats, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav left the Khair seats of Ghaziabad and Aligarh for Congress. The path is not easy for the Indian alliance on these two seats because BJP is in a very strong position here, hence Congress wanted to change its two seats. When things did not work out, Congress handed over both its seats to SP.
