Ranchi, March 11 (HS). A hearing on suo motu cognizance on encroachment of Ranchi's water sources and cleanliness of Bada Talab of Ranchi city was held in Jharkhand High Court on Monday. In the case, the division bench headed by Justice Rangan Mukhopadhyay asked the state government and Ranchi Municipal Corporation how they will fight the problem of drinking water in summer? What plans are the corporation and the government making to ensure that there is no drinking water crisis in Ranchi in future? What is the plan of the government and the corporation to conserve water in the city's water sources? The court has scheduled the next hearing of the case on April 3.
During the hearing, it was told by Ranchi Municipal Corporation that the corporation has made rules for water harvesting in buildings. One and a half times additional holding tax is being collected from building owners and apartment residents who do not follow this. In three-four months, satellite mapping of Kanke Dam, Hatiya Dam and Getalsud Dam of the capital will be done through Jharkhand State Space Application Center so that information about the water source, catchment area, encroachment around the dam etc. of these three dams can be obtained.
The court orally said that the state government and Ranchi Municipal Corporation should give their suggestions to ensure that there is no drinking water crisis in Ranchi in future. The court also said that the Amicus Curiae has also given many suggestions to conserve drinking water in Ranchi, information should also be given as to how much has been implemented by the State Government and Ranchi Municipal Corporation.
