Mumbai: An executive engineer of Mahavitaran (erstwhile MSEB) in Pune was arrested red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau while accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh. The name of Bhausaheb Machhindra Sawant (51) is East. The engineer demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh to sign the connection files of new buildings constructed in Manjhari area. While taking installment of Rs 2 lakh from this amount, he got trapped in the net.
An electricity contractor who complained in this matter has lodged a complaint with the ACB. In which it was alleged that Sawant had demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh for signing five files to start electricity supply in five newly constructed buildings of one of his acquaintances. After receiving this complaint, ACB verified the complaints of October 7, 8, 21 and 22 in detail. In this investigation and verification, it became clear that Sawant had asked for a bribe of five lakhs. After this, ACB laid a trap for a bribe of two lakhs. Ultimately, Sawant was caught red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from the complainant at Mahavitaran's Bundgarden office. In this regard, a crime was registered under relevant sections at Vanwadi police station and further action was taken by arresting Sawant.
