Kolkata, 23 October (HS). Acting on a tip-off, the Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police arrested an inter-state drug smuggler near Panagarh-Morgram State Highway. STF team caught 49-year-old Ajit Kumar Das near Panagarh underpass. He is a resident of Bardhaman. STF SP IPS Indrajit Basu said on Wednesday afternoon that he was arrested late on Tuesday night.
1.12 kg brown sugar was recovered from the arrested person, whose market value is approximately Rs 1 crore. According to information, Ajit Kumar Das is part of an interstate drug trafficking gang and was planning to supply narcotics in the state.
In this matter, a case has been registered under NDPS Act, 1985 under Kankasa Police Station. Efforts are being made to interrogate him and find out about his other associates.
