Under this agreement, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will visit Russia in December. In which they will make a defense deal worth two and a half billion dollars with Russia. Under this deal, INS Tushil will be commissioned into the Indian Navy as the first of two stealth frigates built at Leningrad.
However, deliveries of several defense systems ordered from Russia, including S-400 missile systems and stealth frigates, have already been delayed due to the Russia-Ukraine war. The first warship being built at Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad, Russia is INS Tushil and the second is INS Tamal. Both warships were to be delivered by the end of 2022, but were delayed. Now the second warship INS Tamal is to be supplied early next year.
There will be many important agreements
Seven Talwar class frigates have been built so far, of which six are operational. Four new warships are being built, two of which will be built in Russia and two in India. The displacement of these warships is 3,850 tons. India signed an inter-governmental agreement with Russia for four Talwar-class frigates, which was signed in 2018. According to this agreement, two warships will be completely built in Russia and two warships will be built at India's Goa Shipyard with Russian technical assistance. Yantar Shipyard has built three of the six operational Talwar-class frigates.
What are the characteristics of Russian warships?
These are stealth warships, which means they are difficult to track with radar. Its noise underwater is very low, due to which it cannot be detected by submarines. These ships run on gas turbine engines and can move at a speed of 59 kilometers per hour in the ocean. In these warships, 18 officers and 180 soldiers can be deployed at sea for 30 days. They are equipped with surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles. It is also fitted with torpedo tubes to destroy submarines. These warships are designed for naval warfare and carry a powerful combination of Indian and Russian weapons and sensors.
