Stubble burning cases: Amidst the increasing pollution in Delhi-NCR, the Haryana government has taken seriously the incident of stubble burning in its state and has taken major action against those who violate the orders of the Supreme Court. Haryana's Agriculture Department has suspended 24 officers posted in different districts for negligence in this matter. These officers failed to stop stubble burning in their respective areas. The government has taken this action on the basis of the recommendations received from the Deputy Commissioner and Deputy Director.
18 farmers arrested
Apart from this, the Haryana government has arrested 18 farmers in the last few days on charges of burning stubble in the fields in Kaithal district. The rising pollution levels in Delhi, especially during the months of October and November, have been blamed on stubble burning in Haryana and neighboring Punjab. “In the last few days, 18 farmers were arrested for burning stubble, but they were later released on bail as it is a bailable offence,” a police officer said.
This smoke emanating from fields is a major factor in spreading pollution in Delhi-NCR.
Birbhan, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kaithal district of Haryana, said cases have been registered under the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act and other relevant provisions of the law for stubble burning. Several other districts, including Panipat, Yamunanagar and Ambala, have also recently filed FIRs for stubble burning. It is being told that after harvesting the paddy, farmers burn the stubble in the fields on a large scale, so that the fields can be prepared for the next crop. But this causes air pollution on a large scale. This smoke coming out from the fields of Punjab-Haryana is a major factor in spreading pollution in Delhi-NCR.
Supreme Court sentenced
Haryana Chief Secretary TVSN Prasad on Sunday directed the Deputy Commissioners to ensure that incidents of stubble burning are effectively controlled. The Supreme Court on Wednesday reprimanded the Haryana and Punjab governments for not taking action against the violators in the stubble burning case.
