Kanpur, 21 October (HS). The purpose of Police Memorial Day is not only to remember the martyrs but also to inspire the present police force to continue performing their duties. This was said by Kanpur Nagar Police Commissioner Akhil Kumar while addressing the light and show program organized for police personnel on the occasion of Police Memorial Day at Gandhi Bhawan in Phoolbagh Park, Kanpur late on Monday evening.

He said that Police Memorial Day is not only a day to remember the martyrs, but it is also an opportunity to express gratitude to those police personnel who, even today, are always determined to protect the country in difficult circumstances. Every Indian celebrates this day with pride, paying tribute to his indomitable courage, patience and patriotism. The work of police force is always challenging and full of dangers. They not only maintain law and order but also sacrifice their lives fighting against crimes.

On this occasion, Chief Development Officer Deeksha Jain said that Kanpur city has given recognition to its historical, religious and mythological nature in the entire country and the district administration has also helped in establishing Kanpur on the tourism map under the guidance of Divisional Commissioner Kanpur Amit Gupta. An innovative effort has been started in the form of Kanpur Darshan. In which religious, historical and mythological tourist places are being made available to the tourists in an attractive form along with tour guides and food facilities. Kanpur Darshan has organized a light and show program for police personnel today on the occasion of Police Memorial Day.

District Magistrate Rakesh Kumar Singh said that Police Memorial Day is celebrated to pay tribute to the policemen who are examples of public service and sacrifice. I salute and pay tribute to the police personnel who sacrificed their lives while serving the public. He said that a very good initiative has been taken by Kanpur Darshan, which has organized a light and show on the occasion of Police Memorial Day.

Additional Director General of Police Alok Kumar Singh said that Police Memorial Day is being celebrated across the country today on 21st October. This day is celebrated in the memory of those brave police personnel who made the supreme sacrifice for the security of the country without caring for their lives. This day is celebrated every year to pay tribute to his bravery and dedication. He said that Police Remembrance Day was started after 10 policemen were martyred in a clash with the Chinese army at Hot Springs in Ladakh on October 21, 1959. This day has been specially dedicated to remember their courage and sacrifice. This day reminds us that policemen are always ready to protect the country no matter how difficult the situation is.

In the program, 2 minutes silence was observed to remember the contribution of the policemen who were sacrificed in the line of duty and pay tribute to them. Police Commissioner Akhil Kumar, Additional Director General of Police Kanpur Range Alok Kumar Singh, Inspector General of Police Jogendra Kumar, District Magistrate Rakesh Kumar Singh, Chief Development Officer Deeksha Jain and other police and administration officials were present in the program.
