Koderma, 21 October (Hindustan Reporter). Avadh Bihari Dixit, who had the distinction of becoming the first MLA from Koderma assembly constituency in the year 1952, lost to Chhotanagpur Santhalpargana Janata Party candidate GP Tripathi in the second assembly elections held in the year 1957. In the year 1957, in the Koderma assembly elections, apart from GP Tripathi, Awadh Bihari Dixit from Congress, Suryanarayan Singh from PSP and Vishwanath Modi stood as an independent candidate.
In the elections held at that time, GP Tripathi had defeated Awadh Bihari Dixit by 2945 votes. In the assembly elections held in 1957, the total number of voters was 44914, out of which 20716 voters exercised their votes. Voting took place on 25 February 1957. At that time GP Tripathi got 10041 votes while Awadh Bihari Dixit got 7096 votes. However, in the assembly elections held in 1962, Avadh Bihari Dixit again won and defeated Late Tripathi by 3908 votes. In the assembly elections held in the year 1962, Awadh Bihari Dixit from Congress, GP Tripathi from Swatantra Party, Vishwanath Modi from Socialist Party, Nanku Rana from PSP and Chetan Gop stood as independent. At that time, the total number of voters in Koderma assembly constituency was 57,248, out of which 27,997 people had exercised their votes. Out of these, 1439 votes were cancelled. Awadh Bihari Dixit, who was victorious at that time, had got 11,396 votes and GP Tripathi had got 7488 votes. Thus, in the elections held in 1962, Avadh Bihari Dixit defeated GP Tripathi by 3908 votes.
