Heavy rain alert: Monsoon is departing from the country and mild cold weather has set in in North India. On one hand, while the air quality in Delhi-NCR area is getting worse day by day, there is a possibility of heavy rain in the southern states. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert of heavy rain and thunderstorm in many areas, due to which there is a possibility of temperature fluctuations.

IMD has predicted changes in weather patterns across the country. There will be severe cold in North India including Delhi NCR till October 25, but the heat has returned again during the day. Today the maximum temperature is expected to reach 34 degrees Celsius. The air quality index (AQI) of the capital today stands at 240, which falls in the “poor” category.

Meanwhile, Andaman and Nicobar Islands are on orange alert due to heavy rains today. Also, there is a possibility of strong winds blowing at a speed of 35-45 kilometers per hour. Weather alert of heavy rain has also been issued in coastal areas including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

IMD warning of heavy rains has been issued over Odisha, West Bengal and parts of Maharashtra from October 21-25, indicating that rains will continue in the coming days.

A yellow alert has been issued for partly cloudy sky with chances of rain and thundershowers in Mumbai as the temperature is likely to remain between 26-34 degrees Celsius. In Maharashtra, an orange alert has been issued for Dhule, Nashik and adjoining areas with possible thunderstorms, heavy rain and gusty winds reaching up to 50 kmph.

Heavy rains to continue in Bengaluru till October 25, IMD warns of waterlogging in the city. The rain is being caused by a low pressure system in the Bay of Bengal, which may turn into a depression by October 23. The IMD has urged fishermen in the affected areas, especially coastal areas, to exercise caution due to high wind speeds.
