After successfully landing a mission on the Moon, India is now planning to study the deep sea. Earth Sciences Minister Kiren Rijiju said India should be able to send its own scientists by the end of 2025 to study the deep ocean six km below the surface. In an interview given to a government news agency, Kiren Rijiju said that with the help of Matsya Submarine 6000, humans can go to a depth of 6000 meters inside the sea. The case will go to trial by the end of this year.
Kiren Rijiju said that when you talk about submarines, you are talking about our mission to go six km deep into the ocean, where even light cannot reach. I can say that as far as our Matsya 6000 is concerned – this machine will take humans inside. The minister said he has reviewed the project and scientists will be able to conduct the first tests by the end of this year.
What is the plan?
But most of all I believe that by the end of 2025, that is, next year, we should be able to send manned crews into the oceans more than 6,000 meters deep,” Rijiju said. Samudrayaan or deep ocean mission was launched in 2021. The mission involves launching a manned expedition to reach a depth of 6,000 meters on the seabed in the central Indian Ocean using the Matsya 6000, which is designed to accommodate manned crew members.
India will become equal to America, Russia and China
The submarine will be equipped with scientific sensors and instruments and will have a endurance of 12 hours, which can be extended up to 96 hours in case of emergency. Till now, countries like America, Russia, China, France and Japan have successfully completed deep sea manned missions. India is ready to join the ranks of these countries by demonstrating the expertise and capability for such missions.
