Train in Aizawl Mizoram: After 77 years of independence, Mizoram's capital Aizawl is going to be connected to the railway network. The first train will start running in Aizawl by July 2025.
With this, Aizawl will be the fourth capital city of Northeast India to come on the railway network map. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is laying tracks for a new 51.38 km long broad gauge line up to Sairang, on which trains will start running in the next nine months.
Train will reach Mizoram capital for the first time
- This project is being prepared at a cost of about Rs 8,213.72 crore.
- Assam's city Guwahati, Tripura's capital Agartala and Arunachal Pradesh's Naharlagun have had rail connectivity for many years, now Aizawl will also join the list.
- More than 93 percent work of the Berabi-Sairang Railway Project has been completed. The approximately 51.38 km long route will have 4 stations, namely Horkoti, Kwanpui, Mualkhang and Sairang.
- This accessible railway project consists of 48 tunnels on a route of 51.38 km, with a total length of 12,853 metres. Out of this, construction work of 12,807 meters has been completed.
- The project includes 55 major bridges and 87 minor bridges. The tallest pillar of the project near Sairang station has been completed, the pier is 104 meters high and is 42 meters higher than Qutub Minar.
