Ranchi, 19 October (HS). The Central Election Commission on Saturday directed the removal of the Director General of Police (DGP) of Jharkhand. The Commission has said that the state government should remove acting DGP Anurag Gupta from the post with immediate effect and hand over the charge to the senior most DGP level officer available in the cadre. The commission has summoned the action taken report from the state government by 7 pm.
According to the information, the Election Commission has taken this decision on the basis of the action taken by the Election Commission against Anurag Gupta in the 2019 elections. The Election Commission has asked the state government to follow its instructions and submit a report by 7 pm on Saturday. Besides, a notification related to this has also been issued. The Election Commission has also asked the state government to send a panel of senior IPS officers to be considered for the post by 10 am on Monday.
It is noteworthy that on July 26, the Jharkhand government had appointed 1990 batch IPS Anurag Gupta as the in-charge DGP of Jharkhand. The notification related to this was issued by the Home Jail and Disaster Management Department. Earlier, Ranchi DC Manjunath Bhajantri has been removed on the instructions of the Election Commission. In his place, Varun Ranjan has been made the DC of Ranchi. No letter has yet been issued by the state government regarding the removal of DGP Anurag Gupta.
