Kathmandu, 19 October (Hindustan Reporter). On Saturday, his supporters demonstrated in many cities of the country including Kathmandu and Pokhara in protest against the arrest of Nepal's former Home Minister and Rashtriya Swatantra Party chief Ravi Lamichhane. Rashtriya Swatantra Party has described Ravi's arrest as an act of political vendetta.
The biggest protest against Ravi's arrest took place in Pokhara where Ravi has been kept after his arrest. All the top leaders and MPs of the party had come to participate in the demonstration here. Hundreds of supporters raised slogans against the Oli government in the demonstration. Addressing the protest, party vice president and MP Swarnim Wagle said that the government, which is itself an arena for the corrupt, is trying to suppress our voice to hide its weakness.
During the demonstration in Kathmandu, party workers were stopped from going towards Singh Darbar. During this period, a brief tense situation was also seen between the protesters and the security forces. Here people were protesting with playing cards. Addressing this demonstration, party vice president DP Aryal said that last time Ravi Lamichhane had opened the file of corruption related to the leaders of Congress and CPN (UML) and as soon as the police was given the responsibility to take action on it, the same happened. The government was toppled. Now they are taking revenge for that. Apart from Pokhara, Kathmandu, there are also reports of demonstrations in favor of Ravi and against the government in some other cities including his constituency Chitwan.
