Hearing in Supreme Court regarding electoral bonds, SBI asked for more time from the court

SBI i.e. State Bank of India has sought more time to provide details of electoral bond donors. The Supreme Court is going to hear this matter on Monday. Apart from this, the top judge will also hear the contempt petition filed against SBI by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR). SBI has sought time till June 30 to provide information about electoral bonds to the Election Commission of India i.e. ECI. A five-member bench headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud will hear the case. The bench comprises Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Justice BR Gavai, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court reprimanded SBI and asked what did it do for 26 days?

The Supreme Court has started hearing on SBI's petition related to electoral bonds. In February itself, the Supreme Court had ordered SBI to provide information related to electoral bonds to the Election Commission. SBI told the court – We have no problem in giving information related to the bond, but it needs some time. On this CJI DY Chandrachud asked what have you done till now?

The Constitution Bench had banned the sale of electoral bonds on February 15.

In fact, the five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court had banned the sale of electoral bonds on February 15. Also, SBI was directed to provide the information about electoral bonds purchased from April 12, 2019 till now, to the Election Commission by March 6. On March 4, SBI had filed a petition in the Supreme Court and sought time till June 30 to provide its information. Apart from this, the court will also hear the petition of Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), which had filed a contempt case against SBI for not providing information till March 6.
