Due to non-purchase of grains, farmers rioted, surrounded the houses of MLAs and ministers, stopped trains and demonstrated.

Farmer protest: Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugranha) on Friday surrounded the houses and offices of cabinet ministers, MLAs and BJP leaders over non-purchase of grains in Punjab. In Sultanpur Lodhi of Kapurthala district, farmers demonstrated on the railway track by stopping Somnath Express. Apart from this, farmers in many districts including Bathinga and Amritsar have also made toll plazas free for two days. On Friday (October 18), protests were held in front of the residence of Cabinet Minister Aman Arora in Sunam in Sanrur district and the office of Finance Minister Harpal Cheema elected from Didba seat and the office of Cabinet Minister Barinder Goyal in Lehragaga.

Farmers warned the government

Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddiya in village Khuddiya of Muktsar district, Health Minister Dr. in Patiala. Balbir Singh staged a protest in front of the houses of Shehri, Bhuchho, Maud, Talwandi Sabo and Rampuraful MLAs in Bathinda. Apart from this, BJP state vice president in Sangrur Arvind Khanna and BJP leader in Rampuraphool Jagdeep Singh Nakai protested outside his house. Farmers have also warned to make Ladowal toll plaza free on 20th October. However, if the administration does not take any action, it has also warned of road jam on October 21.

Police surrounded the farmers

Due to non-purchase of grains and non-lifting from the market, Chief Minister was going to surround the house of Bhagwant Mann. However, Chandigarh Police surrounded him and stopped him at Kisan Bhawan itself. Farmers often tried to leave Kisan Bhavan but could not escape in the face of tight security arrangements. In a way, the police took the farmers into custody in Kisan Bhawan itself.

Announcement of siege of Chief Minister's residence

Late in the evening, the farmers announced a gradual dharna at Kisan Bhawan itself. Meanwhile, the Secretary invited farmer leaders for a meeting with the Chief Minister on Saturday evening. United Kisan Morcha has announced to gherao the Chief Minister's residence to demand the purchase of grains, lifting and paddy from the vendors.

Bhagaswant Maa supported

On the other hand, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann came in favor of the farmers. Bhagwant Mann said that the farmers of Punjab do not want to burn stubble, farmers do not want to cultivate grains, but MSP is not available on alternative crops.
