Washington: India's relations with Canada have become tense due to the killing of Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. At such a time, American officials have accused a former officer of Indian intelligence agency RAW of conspiring to murder Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. However, after meeting with US officials, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that the person against whom the US Justice Department has filed a case is no longer an employee of the Indian government. A team of Indian officials is currently on a visit to America on this issue.
The dispute with Canada over India's involvement in the murder of Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar has not stopped yet, while American officials have taken action against Vikas Yadav, a former officer of Indian intelligence agency RAW, for his alleged involvement in it. Conspiracy to murder Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu.
US authorities, in a charge sheet filed in a US court in New York, claimed that he was a former officer of India's spy agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). Yadav, 39, faces three charges, including conspiracy to murder American-Canadian national Gurpatwantsinh Pannu, hiring a person to commit murder and money laundering. The US Justice Department has described Vikas Yadav as a 'fugitive'.
The US has claimed in its indictment that Vikas Yadav worked with others in India and abroad to conspire against Pannu from May 2023. A team of Indian officials has reached America to investigate the allegations made by America against Vikas Yadav. The US government provided the team with evidence of the alleged involvement of Indian national Nikhil Gupta and an Indian official in the conspiracy to murder Pannu.
Meanwhile, the controversy over the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar is deepening in Canada. The statement of Canada's former National Security Advisor Jody Thomas has brought a new twist to the Niger Genocide controversy. He questioned PM Justin Trudeau's claims about India's involvement in the Niger killings.
Former NSA Jody Thomas claimed that initial intelligence and police investigation revealed that Nijjar was murdered in revenge for the murder of Ripudamansingh Malik. Ripudaman was accused of being involved in the 1985 Air India Kanishka bomb blast. At the time of Nijjar's murder, Jody Thomas was in charge of the NSA. Appearing before Canada's foreign interference inquiry, he said some in the Canadian Sikh community are not convinced that Nijjar's murder was revenge for the murder of Ripudaman Malik. They wanted to hold India responsible for this. However, Nijjar's murder was the second high-profile murder in a year at the same gurudwara. Ripudaman Malik was murdered in July 2022, a year before Nijjar was murdered.
Khalistan Tiger Force leader Nijjar launched a public smear campaign against Ripudaman Malik, declaring him a traitor and calling for his social boycott.
