Canadian national security expert Joe Adam George has warned Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Amidst the ongoing debate over imposing trade sanctions on India after India backed out from the allegations, George has said that both the countries should wait for a while instead of being hasty in taking decisions. It would be foolish for any party to take a decision like trade ban.
They should repent. George said Indian tourists are very important to Canada. Canada receives a large amount of income from international students and tourists. They should not be harassed. Any such move would prove foolish. I know there have been talks with Canada about this, but I think it will take a lot of time. George said that Prime Minister Trudeau should accept that he did not give concrete evidence to India. The question is, what is the justification for publicly alleging that India had a role in the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar?
He also said the Royal Canadian Mounted Police formed a multidisciplinary team to investigate these crimes earlier in February this year. During the investigation, the team felt that Indian diplomats including the Indian Ambassador were involved in this crime. Therefore he decided to proceed with the investigation.
He said RCPM Deputy Commissioner Mark Flynn met his counterparts in India late last week on the issue. But he refused to meet Mark. Fillon then decided to meet Indian officials along with Canada's National Security Advisor and Deputy Foreign Minister. He also apprised the Indian diplomats of the seriousness of the alleged crime being committed under the People's Wire of the Government of India. The matter reached India's Home Minister Amit Shah. The RCMP had asked for the diplomatic status of all Indian diplomats in Canada to be canceled so that they could be investigated. But India refused for that.
Trudeau is under stress due to continuous decline in popularity
Justin Trudeau's popularity is declining rapidly on the political front. Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party faced defeat in the recently held local elections in the country. A major challenge for Trudeau is to regain his lost popularity before the 2025 general elections. Some party MPs have also demanded Trudeau's resignation.
