Mumbai: There will be five to ten percent water cut across Mumbai for two days tomorrow and Friday due to valve failure in Vaitarna pipeline.
A 900 mm diameter valve on the pipeline coming from Vaitarna reservoir has broken at Tarli in Thane district. Therefore, the water pipeline system is partially closed. As a result, water supply at the water treatment plant at Bhandup, which supplies water to Mumbai metropolis, has reduced by five to 10 percent. It may take up to 48 hours to repair this valve. Therefore, five to 10 percent water supply has been cut across Mumbai for two days, Thursday and Friday.
It is noteworthy that almost 100 percent water has been stored in the reservoirs that supply water to the city. In such a situation, the municipality claims that there will be no shortage of water in the city till next July.
