Dharamshala, 16 October (Hindustan Reporter). An action plan will be prepared to promote eco-tourism in the Himalayan region from the point of view of environmental protection. For this, coordination will be established with environmentalists and geography experts so that the Himalayan region can be protected in a better way.
These views were put forward by Tourism Corporation Chairman Cabinet Rank RS Bali in the two-day national seminar that started in the auditorium of Dharamshala College on Wednesday. Inaugurating as the chief guest a two-day national seminar on “Geography, Disaster Management and Sustainability Theme in the Himalayas” organized by the Geography Department of the college in collaboration with the Geographical Society of Himachal Pradesh, Bali said that in the present times, climate change is affecting the people in the Himalayas. And is endangering wildlife. Many glaciers are melting and lakes are forming, whose bursting threatens to cause floods downstream. Traditional water sources have dried up, limiting water supplies.
He said that to deal with these challenges, geographers will have to work with promptness and it is very important to make the general public aware about environmental protection. RS Bali said that Himachal Pradesh has been selected under GIZ collaboration for implementation of Phase II of Climate Adaptation and Finance Projects in Rural India. The state government is poised to provide leadership at the national level in the field of environmental protection.
He said that funds have been provided to various institutions for research and development projects in the field of environment and climate and in the initial phase, 19 villages are being developed under the Model Eco Village Scheme.
In the seminar, Professor HN Mishra from Allahabad University delivered a lecture as the keynote speaker on the challenges and solutions of geography, disaster management and sustainability in the Himalayas. On this occasion, retired Professor Dr. Bhupendra Singh Madh and President of Geographical Society of Himachal Pradesh DD Sharma also expressed their views. Earlier, Principal Rakesh Pathania and Secretary of Geographical Society of Himachal Pradesh Dr. BR Thakur welcomed the chief guest and also presented the annual report of the seminar. On this occasion, the chief guest released a souvenir and the book Earth's Aerial Insight by Dr. Satindra Malik was also released. On this occasion, seminar coordinator Sanjay Singh Pathania, Mayor Neenu Sharma and experts and researchers from across the country were also present.
