Weight Loss Tips: If you want to lose weight, you should read this: Nutritionist Alan Aragon says that drinking two glasses of water before meals can help you lose weight. During an episode of the podcast The Model Health Show, Allen explained his trick for drinking water before meals, which increases satiety and potentially aids weight loss. But does it really work?
What is the 'water trick' for weight loss?
While we know staying hydrated is important for our health and body, Alan Aragon's 'water trick' involves drinking two glasses of water before meals to help control appetite and reduce total calorie intake. He says that the water you drink before eating will help you save calories.
“There is something very interesting about orgasm and I call it the ‘water trick,’” Allen said. You can actually preload with plain water before each meal. After preloading water, you will eat much less. When you go out to dinner, this is a nice thing to do. “Drink two large glasses of water before sitting down to bring fresh bread and butter: this will significantly reduce the amount of calories you eat.”

Drink enough water – You might have heard this from your parents, doctors and friends. But is it good to drink water even during meals? According to Allen, it's good.
He said, “I always get this question: Doesn't drinking water with food dilute the digestive enzymes, and then you're not able to digest food properly? In fact there is no evidence of this. I understand what people are thinking, but when you look at people who eat a lot of soup, they can't drink much water with their meals, and they're also not digesting the food properly. So, I don't think people need to worry about this if they decide to use the 'water trick' to put a maximum speed limit on a cheesecake after their main meal.”
Does the trick of drinking water before meals work?
According to Dr Rakesh Gupta, Senior Consultant, Internal Medicine, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, the trick of drinking water before meals 'has become popular as a simple and effective way to manage weight and improve overall health.' Drinking water before meals can help you feel full, potentially reducing calorie intake, she said.
Dr. Rakesh Gupta said, “Many studies show that drinking water before meals can actually help in weight control. Water, being calorie-free, fills your stomach, making you feel full. This may make you eat less during meals, especially if you have a habit of overeating or snacking mindlessly. “A study published in Obesity found that participants who drank about 500 ml of water before each meal lost more weight over a 12-week period than those who did not.”
He added, “In addition, water aids digestion and helps maintain the body's natural functions, which is important for overall health. Sometimes, when we think we are hungry, we are actually thirsty. Drinking water before meals can help you distinguish between actual hunger and dehydration. “This can prevent unnecessary calorie intake when you just need hydration.”
'This is not a magic solution for weight loss'
However, Dr Rakesh Gupta warned that it is important to remember that drinking water before meals 'is not a magic solution for weight loss'. “It works best when combined with healthy eating habits, portion control and regular physical activity. For some people, especially older adults, drinking too much water before meals may reduce their appetite so much that they may not get enough nutrients. Therefore, balance is important,” he said.
