The Election Commission announced the dates of assembly elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand on Tuesday evening. Along with this, the dates of by-elections for Lok Sabha and Assembly seats in various states of the country were also announced. Shortly after the press conference of the Election Commission, the Congress Party released the list of three candidates. However, these three candidates are declared candidates for the by-elections to Lok Sabha/Assembly seats. Priyanka Gandhi's name is also in this list.
Know which candidate from which seat
The three seats where the Congress party has announced candidates include Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala, Palakkad Assembly seat in Kerala and Chelakara Assembly seat. Let us tell you that by-elections are to be held only on these three seats of Kerala, out of which one is Lok Sabha seat and two are assembly seats. Congress has declared Rahul Mamkuthil as its candidate from Palakkad Assembly seat and Ramya Haridas from Chelakara Assembly seat. Priyanka Gandhi has been made the candidate from Wayanad, the only vacant Lok Sabha seat of Kerala. Priyanka Gandhi had announced long ago that she would contest from Wayanad seat after Rahul Gandhi.
Why is Priyanka Gandhi contesting elections from Wayanad?
Let us tell you that Rahul Gandhi was elected MP from this seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. However, apart from Wayanad, Rahul Gandhi also contested from Amethi Lok Sabha seat. When the election results came, he won both the seats. After this, Rahul Gandhi announced to remain MP from Amethi seat and he left Wayanad seat. This seat became vacant after Rahul Gandhi left Wayanad seat. However, the Election Commission has also announced the date of by-election for Wayanad Lok Sabha seat today. Shortly after the announcement of the dates by the Election Commission, Priyanka Gandhi's name was announced on this seat.
