Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (ITCTC) provides many excellent facilities to railway passengers. Through this, you can do everything from booking railway tickets to ordering food and drinks during the journey.
But, there are some such facilities of ITCTC, about which many people are not aware. Like current ticket. Under this facility you can book railway tickets even on the day of travel. But, for this some things have to be kept in mind.
Why do you need a running ticket?
Railways usually opens train ticket booking three months before the date of departure of the train. Whereas Tatkal quota ticket booking opens one day before the scheduled journey of the train. If you book general ticket early then you get a seat. Whereas in Tatkal ticket the number of tickets is very limited. In such a situation, the chances of the booking being confirmed are very less.
If you have missed booking both normal and tatkal tickets, you can try the Tatkal ticketing system.
What is current ticket?
You must have booked general, waiting or tatkal tickets through IRCTC platform. All these tickets are booked before the chart is prepared. But, after the chart is prepared, you can book the current ticket from IRCTC website or app. In this, the seats remaining vacant after the chart is prepared are booked.
How to book current ticket
Current tickets are booked on the day of travel only, so it is important to keep some things in mind. You can book current tickets through this process.
Click on the 'Trains' button in the IRCTC app and type your destination and source station.
The date of departure should be the same as the date on which you are booking the ticket.
After selecting the source, destination and departure date click on 'Search Train' button.
Now you will see the list of all the trains available on that route on the screen.
Click on the ticket category of your choice – like CC, EC, 3AC, 3E, etc.
If current ticket is available for that train, it will appear as 'CURR_AVBL-'
With this facility, chances of getting current tickets on less busy routes are higher.
On the other hand, on routes with higher demand, current tickets are less likely to be booked.
