Sugar And Depression: It is generally said that if you want to maintain good health then you should eat less sugar. Health experts have been saying that eating too much sugar increases the risk of diabetes. A recent study states that eating too much sugar is strongly linked to depression. Let us know about it.

A study conducted by a research team at the University of Surrey states that people who eat more sweets are more likely to suffer from serious illnesses such as increased levels of depression. Consuming too much sugar increases the risk of depression. In such a situation, it becomes necessary to consume less sweets. This study published in Translational Medicine states that people who eat more sweets have risks like diabetes, depression, stroke etc.

During the study people were divided into three groups. Omnivores (those who eat both vegetables and meat), health conscious who eat more vegetables and fruits, the third group includes those who eat more sweets. In the study, all three groups were given food of their choice. In such a situation, people who like sweets are more likely to suffer from depression.

Researchers say that the group that ate more sweets had a worse metabolic rate than the other groups. Along with this, increase in blood sugar level, swelling in the body, digestive problems as well as mental problems were also seen in the people of this group.

Apart from metabolic problems, mental health conditions were also seen in these people, after the study found that those who ate more sweets had a 31 percent higher risk of depression compared to the rest of the group. In such a situation, studies have shown that compared to eating too many sweets, consuming vegetables and fruits improves metabolic rate as well as mental health.
