Varanasi, 14 October (Hindustan Reporter). Idols of Maa Durga were immersed for the third consecutive day on Monday amid tight security in the city of Kashipuradhipati. Immersion of the idols of Maa Durga installed in various puja pandals of the city also took place on last Saturday and Sunday. The immersion of the remaining idols will continue till late evening. Before this, in Bangiya puja pandals, women performed the ritual of playing vermillion before bidding farewell to Maa Durga.
In Bangiya puja pandals, married women played Holi with vermillion offered to Mata Rani. After worshiping the statue of Mother Goddess established by BDS Club in Chetsingh Fort complex, women offered vermilion and symbolically fed her sweets. After this, women participated enthusiastically in Dhunuchi dance. Then the immersion procession was taken out. On Sunday too, in the Bangiya puja pandals of Bhelupur and Dashashwamedh areas, women danced to the tune of the band and performed the ritual of playing vermillion. There is a belief in Banga society that Mother Durga comes to her parents' home during Sharadiya Navratri and after staying for 10 days, she goes back to her in-laws' house. The festival of Durga Puja is celebrated in the honor of Mother Bhagwati. During this time, Mother Durga is given love and affection like a daughter. Like the daughter of the society, Mata Rani is symbolically prepared for farewell. Married women feed sweets and curd to their mother symbolically. She makes them wear bangles and applies vermilion. The entire ritual of the daughter visiting her in-laws for the first time is performed. At the time of farewell (immersion), the corners of women's eyes become wet.
