New Delhi. Going home by plane during Diwali will be cheaper than last year. The main reason for this is that the average airfare on many domestic routes has decreased by 20-25 percent compared to last year. In fact, increased capacity and the recent fall in oil prices are being considered as one of the reasons for the decline in air ticket prices.
Analysis by travel portal Ixigo has shown that average airfares on domestic routes have come down by 20-25 per cent. These prices are average one-way fares based on the purchase date 30 days in advance. In 2023, this time period was between November 10-16, while this year it is October 28-November 3. It is the time around Diwali.
Bengaluru-Kolkata flight becomes cheaper
The biggest decline of 38 percent in the average airfare this year was recorded for the Bengaluru-Kolkata flight, which fell from Rs 10,195 last year to Rs 6,319. The ticket price on the Chennai-Kolkata route has dropped by 36 percent from Rs 8,725 to Rs 5,604. The average airfare of Mumbai-Delhi flight has declined by 34 percent from Rs 8,788 to Rs 5,762.
Similarly, ticket prices on the Delhi-Udaipur route have dropped by 34 percent to Rs 7,469 from Rs 11,296. This decline is 32 percent on Delhi-Kolkata, Hyderabad-Delhi and Delhi-Srinagar routes. Last year there was a surge in airfares around Diwali due to limited capacity, mainly due to the suspension of Go First Airlines.
Benefit of reduction in oil prices
Another major reason for the reduction in fares is the fall in oil prices. Oil prices have fallen by 15 percent this year, giving travelers more affordable options during the festive season. However, oil prices are slightly higher at the moment due to rising geopolitical tensions. Due to this, air fares on some routes have increased by up to 34 percent.
The ticket price on the Ahmedabad-Delhi route has increased by 34 per cent from Rs 6,533 to Rs 8,758, while on the Mumbai-Dehradun route it has increased by 33 per cent from Rs 11,710 to Rs 15,527.
