New Delhi: As Durga Puja is being celebrated with great pomp across the country, stone pelting and firing took place at a Durga Puja procession in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh, in which one person died and another was injured. Apart from this, the police arrested the youth who broke the idol of Maa Durga in Chhoti Mata temple of Lucknow. On the other hand, from Durga Mata Padal in Jajpur, Odisha, gold and silver of Mata Durga is worth Rs. Jewelery worth Rs 10 lakh was stolen.
On Sunday, unknown people started pelting stones at Maa Durga in Maharajganj of Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh when a yatra being taken out to exorcize the ghosts of Maa Durga was passing through the area of Muslim community. Apart from this, two people were seriously injured in the firing by some miscreants amidst stone pelting. He was immediately admitted to the hospital. However, one person died during treatment in the hospital. After the incident, the mob set fire to many vehicles and houses in the area. After this violent incident, Durga immersion was stopped and the entire Maharajganj area was converted into a police cantonment.
On the other hand, a young man broke the idol of Maa Durga in the Chhoti Mata temple of Cantt police station area in Lucknow late on Wednesday night. After checking the CCTV footage of the temple, the accused Sunil Rajput was identified. The police arrested him and interrogated him. Police said that Sunil Rajput was under the influence of drugs. He entered the temple in a drunken state to steal the prasad offered to the idol. During this time he broke the idol. There is a lot of anger among the local people due to this incident. However, the police took immediate action and arrested Sunil Rajput.
Meanwhile, some thieves made away with gold and silver worth Rs 50,000 worn by Maa Durga from a Durga Puja pandal in Jajpur district of Odisha. Jewelery worth Rs 10 lakh was stolen. The theft incident took place late on Friday night at Barundei Temple located in Hale of Korei police station area. When the priest and the puja committee members reached the temple on Saturday morning, they saw that the door of the temple was open and the mother's jewelery was missing. Police are investigating the incident.
