Itanagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday where he inaugurated the world's longest 'twin-tunnel' Sela Tunnel. He also participated in a program titled 'Developed India, Developed North-East'. Along with Rs. In his speech during the inauguration ceremony of 'Unnati' projects organized at a cost of Rs 10,000 crore, the Prime Minister jokingly said, 'Common people will probably get tired of hearing me all the time.'
This twin tunnel has been constructed by the Border Roads Organization at an altitude of 13,000 feet at a cost of Rs. Rs 825 crore has been spent. Two tunnels have been constructed in this project. Tunnel no. 1,1003 meters long. Tunnel no. 2, (1) is 595 meters long. This project involves 8.6 km. This also goes a long way. These tunnels are so big that 3,000 cars and 2,000 trucks can pass through them every day. (2) The importance of this tunnel is that it makes access to Tawang on the border of Tibet (China) very easy.
Although these tunnels save only 1 hour in reaching Tawang, it is important because the road leading there remains closed for long periods of the year due to snowfall and resulting landslides. Therefore it becomes extremely difficult to reach the border of Tibet (China). In such a situation, it becomes very difficult for the army to reach the Line of Actual Control.
The name of this tunnel is 'Seva-Tunnel' because it is near 'Seva Ghat'. (4) This tunnel will not only benefit the defense sector but will also increase trade exchanges, which will ultimately lead to social upliftment. (4) Prime Minister This stone was laid for these tunnels in February 2019. But this process was delayed due to many obstacles including Covid-19. But this tunnel will greatly increase our defense capability against China. The purpose of this tunnel is to help counter China.
