Today's busy life and modern lifestyle have rapidly increased mental stress in the lives of the youth. Teenagers and youth are facing mental struggles due to the pressure of school and college, increasing demand of social media and creating their own identity in the society. It is very important for parents to understand these challenges and help their children come out of this stress.

Professor Dr. Parul Malhotra of Jagannath University is telling some important things which every parent should keep in mind.

1. Practice open communication

Communicate openly and honestly with your children. Make them feel that you are with them and that they can share anything with you. Be patient in listening to your children and do not give immediate advice or judgment. Create a judgment-free zone where they can express their feelings freely.

2. Create a supportive environment

Create a supportive and understanding environment at home where your child feels emotionally safe. Avoid critical comments and encourage them even for small achievements so that they feel confident.

3. Help reduce stress

Nowadays children are busy in studies and extra-curricular activities. In such a situation, it is the duty of the parents to help in reducing this pressure. Encourage them to strike a healthy balance so that along with studies, they can also make time for friends and entertainment.

4. Limit screen time

Excessive use of social media and technology can also have a negative impact on mental health. Limit screen time and encourage children to have face-to-face interactions. Encourage them to meet and spend time with people in the real world.

5. Don't hesitate to seek professional help

If you feel that your child is showing signs of a mental problem, seek help from a professional counselor or psychologist without delay. Help given at the right time can improve the mental health of the child and lay a strong foundation for his/her future.
